dvd-playing
February 12, 2008 15:39Something annoying is a working software, which doesn’t behave as usual. One such example in my installation marathon is totem-xine. It plays movies and sound, everything smooth (although with high system load due to missing XVideo support of the graphics driver), thank to the medibuntu-repository, the only things, which are not played, are DVD’s secured with CSS.
Searching the web I found it could be a problem of setting the region code for the first time: the program regionset should correct this issue. I say should, because it sets a region-code for the first time, but it gives me the hint, that I own a RPC2-drive, which is rather problematic. Comparing with other computers I see, that all drives in my neighbourhood are RPC2-drives. Searching on for a while I get the idea to analyse the ~/.dvdcss-directory and see, that there are only zero-keys in the corresponding directories. I copy a folder from another computer and voila, it works.
Testing a new DVD works. I can’t exactly figure out, where the problem was, but maybe it was due to the version of libdvdcss2, which I temporarily downgraded to version 1.2.9-1.
The XVideo problem is solved by the correct install of the driver, because I noticed, that the old driver was not correctly installed. guide
After following this guide I had to correct still a symlink: sudo ln -s /var/lib/dkms/fglrx/8.452.1/2.6.22-14-generic/i686/module/fglrx.ko /lib/modules/2.6.22-14-generic/kernel/drivers/video/
